Controlled Substance Reporting (CSR)

Each state maintains a prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) which serves as an electronic database for controlled substance prescription activity in that state. Pharmacies are required to submit prescription information to their state’s PDMP on a recurring basis. Reporting intervals vary from state to state, ranging from monthly to daily to real time (i.e. under five minutes). In some states, a submission is required even on days when no controlled substance prescriptions are filled.
